2012 Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Showdown

Denver, CO – On Saturday, April 21, 2012, two of the biggest rivals in all of Colorado sports will clash as the Colorado State Rams take on the Colorado Buffaloes in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Showdown. This year marks the 8th official Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Showdown and the 5th such match-up between the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Conference rivals in the big house at Sports Authority Field at Mile High Stadium.

Besides being the biggest rivalry game in all of Colorado lacrosse, this match-up carries the extra significance of being an extremely important RMLC conference game between the two schools. Colorado comes into the game in 1st place overall in the RMLC after defeating BYU on April 5. Colorado State dropped their game to BYU just two days later setting up a contest that could be for first place overall in conference as the regular season winds to a close.

The Rams are led in scoring by junior attackman Austin Fisher (Rock Canyon HS / Highlands Ranch, CO), who has tallied 55 points so far this season while the Buffaloes sophomore attackman Riley Seidel (St. Johns Jesuit HS / Toledo, OH) leads Colorado with 31.

Both defenses have been stout so far this season as CSU has only allowed just under five goals a game and CU is averaging 6.78 goals against in their 14 games this year. Look for goaltenders Jack Regan (Sunset HS / Beaverton, OR) and Koltin Fatzinger (Wheat Ridge HS / Thornton, CO) to stand tall in net for the Rams while CU’s junior netminder Bradley MacNee (Ridgewood HS / Ridgewood, NJ) has been performing at a high level all season.

The Rams hold a significant edge in the all-time series, but most games have been very close. Last year, Colorado State swept the Buffs with a pair of 9-8 victories, but the two games could not have been different. In the first – the Showdown game in the regular season – CSU jumped out to an 8-3 lead at halftime before watching the Buffs stampede back into the game and tie it at 8. The Rams got a late goal to win it in an emotional victory.

Two weeks later, it was the exact opposite scenario. This time, it was CU exploding out of the gates, scoring the game’s first five goals before Colorado State stormed back in the second half to win it. Both games were extremely entertaining and a harbinger of yet another barn-burner to come this year between the two schools.
